Jennifer "makes hay" in Washington Square

Welcome to our web site!

The Manhattan Farmer's Association was founded in 1742 with the goal of, "advancing the interests of the farmers, growers, cattlemen and swineherds of the island of Manhattan." For nearly two hundred years, the Association protected the interests of those farmers until Allan Ploughman, Manhattan's last farmer, passed away in 1932 at the age of ninety-seven.

Remarkably, farming returned to the "big apple" in a small way in the latter part of the last century with the advent of community and rooftop gardens.  The Manhattan Farmer's Association seeks to build on that phenomenon and return real farming to the island of Manhattan.

We are currently raising funds to convert a section of Eighth Avenue, midtown into a Christmas tree farm to benefit all of the city's residents.
